Vintage, later 20th century, molded polyresin Bust of Hermes Olympia, with a black & gold sponge painted finish, that was made for export from China.
This ancient Greek sculpture actually depicts Hermes and the infant Dionysus and was discovered in 1877 within the ruins of the Temple of Hera at Olympia, Greece. The infant hand can be seen on the shoulder of this bust thought to be “Hermes of Praxiteles.”
That original sculpture is housed in the Archaeological Museum of Olympia. The statue is traditionally attributed to the renowned Greek sculptor Praxiteles and is believed to have been created in the 4th century BC. Many reproductions have been made and often auctioned.
This rendering is excellent and worth displaying. Excellent condition and a beautiful bust to complement your home decor. Substantial piece at over 4 lbs.
