HOW IT’S MADE:
These vintage mango wood coasters from New Light Drawing Emporium have been skilfully made by artisans in Saharanpur, a city that is home to some of India’s finest wood carvers. The thick forests all around provide ample wood needed for the woodcraft industry to thrive here. Dating back to about 400 years in Mughal period, some craftsmen came from Kashmir and settled down in Saharanpur. Carving is done by hand using basic instruments like saws, chisels, knives etc. The gifted artisans produce astonishing results with these seemingly simple tools. The pieces are finally assembled and polished by trained artisans, revealing offerings that are rich in detail and steeped in tradition
